Heartbreaking News on Cargo Plane Crash: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The tally of lives lost due to the UPS cargo plane that caught fire and went down has now risen to 13, as confirmed by latest announcements.

Official's Statement

Traveling to the Workers’ memorial service, I was informed of a 13th person that died as a result of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” wrote the city mayor in a social media post. “My prayers are with the relatives, companions and co-workers of all who were taken in this week’s calamity. We will get through this collectively.”

Casualties Identified

A release from the company identified the flight crew operating the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to every employee who has been affected and everyone in our community area – supporting you and making sure you obtain the attention and assistance you need is our focus,” the company’s message stated.

Inquiry Updates

National authorities announced that the freight aircraft’s wing ignited and an motor fell off just after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the jet to crash and burst into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is investigating the aircraft’s maintenance history, that was in the state for repairs several weeks prior to the crash.

Aviation data indicated the aircraft was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from early September to last week.

“We are cognizant that this plane was present in San Antonio,” said an official on Thursday, not giving a precise date range. “We will review every piece of maintenance that was performed, from the San Antonio time, right up to the time of the flight.”

Recovery of Critical Items

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were recovered, and the power plant was located on the tarmac.

The units – referred to as flight recorders – were designed to withstand crash impacts and extreme heat from fires, and they seemed to be in one piece when located among the wreckage. Officials intend to reviewing data from the devices.

Aircraft’s final data recordings showed an elevation of that level and a speed of that speed ahead of the impact.

Maintenance Background

According to FAA documents from 18 September, a crack on a part within the tank area required maintenance.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which indicated it offers airframe maintenance for the company’s jet and runs a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to speak, but stated it would assist completely when investigators contacted it.

Activities Restart

In the meantime, UPS Worldport activities resumed last night with its express or night sort procedure, official the company official confirmed. All three tarmacs at the airport were also reopened.

The distribution hub in this location is the organization’s largest. The facility employs over 20,000 people in the locality, manages three hundred aircraft each day and sorts more than 400,000 parcels each hour.

Public Response

A candlelight vigil was conducted on the late afternoon of that date by the regional worker’s group, which supports employees at the airfield, the organization’s largest air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the estimated hour of the crash two days earlier.

“This incident was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the leader spoke to the group of 200. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any one of those who we have lost.”
