Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
